A quantum superlaser is a laser that has been configured to fire at quantum lightspeed. As quantum lightspeed is in fact slower than lightspeed, the usefulness of a quantum superlaser is not immediately apparent. However, starship sensors are configured to detect lasers at lightspeed, so a quantum laser shot at a lucky time may gain an advantage in a crucial battle. However, as the machinery required to operate a quantum superlaser is bulky and nonstandard equipment on starships, quantum superlasers are often mounted on space stations.
